• Cascade 128 Superwash (chunky weight; 100% superwash merino wool; 128 yds/100g per skein): 10 skeins ecru #817 (MC); 2 skeins for each CC: celery #905 (A), dark plum #1965 (B), aporto #856 (C) and turquoise #812 (D) • Size 10 (6mm) 32-inch circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge • Stitch markers
14 sts and 15 rows = 4 inches/10cm in Checkerboard pat (blocked). To save time, take time to check gauge.
Checkerboard (multiple of 4 sts + 2) Note: Maintain edge sts in St st throughout; follow Color Sequence for CC. Row 1 (RS): K1 MC (edge st); *k2 MC, k2 CC following Color Sequence; rep from * to last st; k1 MC (edge st). Row 2: P1 MC; *p2 CC, p2 MC; rep from * to last st, p1 MC. Row 3: K1 MC; *k2 CC, k2 MC; rep from * to last st; k1 MC. Row 4: P1 MC; *p2 MC, p2 CC; rep from * to last st; p1 MC.

Color Sequence Work 180 (230) rows as follows: 20 rows using A as CC. 10 rows using C as CC. 30 rows using D as CC. 10 rows using B as CC. 10 rows using C as CC. 10 rows using A as CC. 30 rows using B as CC. 20 rows using D as CC. 30 rows using C as CC. 10 rows using A as CC (end here for baby blanket). 10 rows using B as CC. 20 rows using A as CC. 10 rows using C as CC. 10 rows using D as CC (end here for afghan).
Using MC, cast on 104 (164) sts.
Knit 9 rows and on last row, inc 20 (22) sts evenly across—124 (186) sts.
Work in Checkerboard pat, changing CC as indicated in Color Sequence, until piece reaches desired length or until all rows of a color sequence section have been completed.
With MC, knit 8 rows and on first row, dec 20 (22) sts evenly across— 104 (164) sts.
Bind off kwise.
Side Border With RS facing, pick up and knit 1 st for each garter st ridge at ends and 14 sts for every 15 rows of pat. Knit 8 rows. Bind off kwise. Rep on other side. Weave in all ends. Block to finished measurements.
