• Clas­sic Elite Yarns Soft Linen (DK weight; 35% linen/ 35% wool/30% baby alpaca; 137 yds/50g per ball): 5 (6, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9) balls soft laven­der #2259 • Size 3 (3.5mm) 24-inch cir­cu­lar nee­dle • Size 4 (3.75mm) 24-inch cir­cu­lar (2) and dou­ble-point nee­dles (set of 4 or 5) or size needed to ob­tain gauge • Stitch mark­ers • Stitch holder or waste yarn

Gauge

20 sts and 27 rows/rnds = 4 inches/ 10cm in Wa­ter­drop Pat with larger nee­dles. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Spe­cial Ab­bre­vi­a­tion

Slip, slip, purl (ssp): Sl 2 sts, 1 at a time, kwise to RH nee­dle; re­turn sts to LH nee­dle in turned po­si­tion and purl them tog tbl.

Pat­tern Note

Pullover is worked in the round from the bot­tom up to the arm­hole. At the un­der­arm, the back and fronts are di­vided, stitches are cast on or picked up for the sleeves then worked sep­a­rately to the shoul­der, where they are joined with the 3-nee­dle bind-off.

Body

With larger cir­cu­lar nee­dle, cast on 140 (160, 180, 200, 220, 240, 260) sts. Pm for beg of rnd and join, be­ing care­ful not to twist sts.

Work in K3, P2 Rib­bing for 12 rnds. Inc Rnd: K4, yo, *k5, yo; rep from * to last st, k1—168 (192, 216, 240, 264, 288, 312) sts.

Work [Rnds 1–12 of Wa­ter­drop Pat] 7 times, then work [Rnds 1–5] once more. Piece should mea­sure about 15 inches to here.

Fronts

Shape Front Neck & Cast On for Sleeves With RS still fac­ing, use the cable method (see page 81) to cast on 13 sts for the left sleeve, work Row 6 of Wa­ter­drop Pat for 48 (53, 59, 64, 70, 75, 81) sts, join a 2nd ball of yarn and bind off 14 (16, 16, 18, 18, 20, 20) sts for front neck, work un­til there are 35 (40, 46, 51, 57, 62, 68) sts on nee­dle after neck bind-off, turn work so WS is fac­ing, use the cable method to cast on 13 sts for the right sleeve—48 (53, 59, 64, 70, 75, 81) sts rem on each front. Place 84 (96, 108, 120, 132, 144, 156) sts for back onto st holder or waste yarn.

Con­tinue work­ing back and forth in rows on front sts only, work­ing right and left fronts at once us­ing sep­a­rate balls of yarn as fol­lows: Next Row (WS): Work as es­tab­lished to 1 st be­fore neck edge, sl 1 st pwise wyif; on other side, slip the first 2 sts, then pass the first st over the 2nd to bind off 1 st, bind off 2 more sts, then work to end. Next Row (RS): Work as es­tab­lished to neck edge; on other side, slip the first 2 sts, then pass the first st over the 2nd to bind off 1 st, bind off 2 more sts, then work to end—45 (50, 56, 61, 67, 72, 78) sts rem on each front.

Work 1 WS row even in Wa­ter­drop Pat. Neck Dec Row (RS): Work in Wa­ter­drop Pat to 3 sts be­fore neck edge, ssp or ssk keep­ing in pat, p1; on other side, p1, p2­tog or k2­tog keep­ing in pat, work in Wa­ter­drop Pat to end—1 st dec each front.

Rep the last 2 rows 8 more times— 36 (41, 47, 52, 58, 63, 69) sts rem.

Con­tinue work­ing in Wa­ter­drop Pat un­til piece mea­sures 7 (71/4, 73/4, 8, 81/2, 83/4, 91/4) inches from sleeve cas­ton, end­ing after a WS row. Take note of which row is worked last, so the back will end in the same place. Place all sts onto st hold­ers or waste yarn. Break yarn.

Back

With RS of back fac­ing and larger cir­cu­lar nee­dle, beg at sleeve cuff of right sleeve, pick up and knit 14 sts along the cast-on edge of the right sleeve, work Row 6 of Wa­ter­drop Pat across 84 (96, 108, 120, 132, 144, 156) held sts, then pick up and knit 14 sts along the cast-on edge of the left sleeve—112 (124, 136, 148, 160, 172, 184) sts. Dec Row (WS): Work Row 7 of Wa­ter­drop Pat for 12 sts, k2­tog, work in Wa­ter­drop Pat as es­tab­lished to last 14 sts, ssk, work in Wa­ter­drop Pat to end— 110 (122, 134, 146, 158, 170, 182) sts rem.

Con­tinue work­ing in Wa­ter­drop Pat un­til piece mea­sures 53/4 (6, 61/2, 63/4, 71/4, 71/2, 8) inches from sleeve pick-up row, end­ing after a WS row (no fewer than 8 rows ear­lier than the fronts). Shape Back Neck Divi­sion row (RS): Work 39 (44, 50, 55, 61, 66, 72) sts in Wa­ter­drop Pat, join a 2nd ball of yarn, bind off 32 (34, 34, 36, 36, 38, 38) sts, work to end—39 (44, 50, 55, 61, 66, 72) sts rem on each side.

Con­tinue work­ing both sides at once, us­ing sep­a­rate balls of yarn.

Work 1 WS row even in Wa­ter­drop Pat. Neck Dec Row (RS): Work in Wa­ter­drop Pat to 3 sts be­fore neck edge, ssp or ssk keep­ing in pat, p1; on other side, p1, p2­tog or k2­tog keep­ing in pat, work in Wa­ter­drop Pat to end—1 st dec each side.

Rep the last 2 rows 2 more times— 36 (41, 47, 52, 58, 63, 69) sts rem.

Con­tinue work­ing even in Wa­ter­drop Pat un­til the sleeves mea­sure the same as for the front, end­ing after the same num­bered row of the Wa­ter­drop Pat.

Turn work in­side out and with RS held tog, re­turn 36 (41, 47, 52, 58, 63, 69) held sts from each front to 2nd cir­cu­lar nee­dle, and use the 3-nee­dle bind-off method (see page 80) to join the back and front shoul­der sts tog.

Fin­ish­ing

Block piece to mea­sure­ments. Neck­band With larger cir­cu­lar nee­dle and RS fac­ing, beg at right shoul­der “seam,” pick up and knit 120 (125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 150) sts evenly around neck­line. Pm for beg of rnd. Work in K3, P2 Rib­bing for 6 rnds. Change to smaller cir­cu­lar nee­dle and work 6 more rnds. Bind off all sts in pat. Sleeve Cuffs With dpns and RS fac­ing, beg at un­der­arm, pick up and knit 60 (60, 65, 70, 75, 75, 80) sts evenly around arm­hole open­ing. Pm for beg of rnd and join to work in the rnd.

Work in K3, P2 Rib­bing for 12 rnds. Bind off all sts in pat. Rep for 2nd arm­hole. Weave in ends.
