Field Guide to Knitted Birds

Creative Knitting - - BOOK REVIEWS -

By Arne & Carlos (Trafalgar Square Books, 176 pages, $24.95)

Bird-watchers and knitters alike will be charmed with the latest offering from Arne & Carlos. All you need to knit these tiny, whimsical birds are small amounts of DKweight yarn, double-point needles, some stuffing and a couple of beads for eyes. Although the projects may look intimidating, even less experienced knitters will get good results from using a single color of yarn or a self-patterning yarn. Begin by learning the Anatomy of Knitted Birds, then move on to create Garden Birds, Birds in Traditional Sweaters, Birds of Paradise (with sequined breasts and other novelty touches) and more. If desired, you can make stands for the birds out of wire (instructions included), and you’ll be well on your way to knitting an entire flock!
