Gauge

20 sts and 28 rnds = 4 inches/10cm in St st. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Spe­cial Ab­bre­vi­a­tions

Make 1 Left (M1L): In­sert LH nee­dle from front to back un­der hor­i­zon­tal strand be­tween last st worked and next st on LH nee­dle; knit through back of re­sult­ing loop. Make 1 Right (M1R): In­sert LH nee­dle from back to front un­der hor­i­zon­tal strand be­tween last st worked and next st on LH nee­dle; knit into front of re­sult­ing loop. Slip marker (sm): Slip marker to RH nee­dle.

2x2 Rib (mul­ti­ple of 4 sts) Rnd 1: K1, *p2, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, k1.

Pat­tern Notes

Yarn amounts are suf­fi­cient for both hat and mitts.

Both projects are worked in the round from the bot­tom up.

Switch to dou­ble­point nee­dles when shap­ing the crown of the hat when there are no longer suf­fi­cient stitches to fit com­fort­ably on the cir­cu­lar nee­dle.

Mitts are de­signed to fit ei­ther hand.

Hat Cuff

Cast 88 sts onto cir­cu­lar nee­dle. Mark beg of rnd and join, be­ing care­ful not to twist.

Work 2x2 Rib for 2 inches.

Body

Rnd 1 (inc): K5, M1L, [k11, M1L] 6 times, M1L, k6—96 sts. Rnds 2–5: Work in garter st (knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd), beg with a purl rnd. Rnds 6–15: Work in Lit­tle Checks pat. Cut yarn. Pull tail through rem 6 sts and pull to close. Bring tail to in­side of hat and se­cure.

Fin­ish­ing

Weave in ends.

Make pom­pom ac­cord­ing to man­u­fac­turer’s in­struc­tions. Sew to top of hat.
