Shawl is knit sideways; starting at 1 tip and increasing to the center, and then decreasing to tip on opposite side.
First Half Cast on 5 sts. Knit 5 rows. Row 1 (RS): K3, yo, knit to end—6 sts. Row 2: Knit, knitting tbl of yo. Rows 3–10: Rep Rows 1 and 2—
10 sts. Row 11: K3, yo, knit to last 5 sts,
k2tog, yo, k3—11 sts. Row 12: K3, purl across to last 3 sts,
k3. Note: Do not work yo’s tbl. Rep Rows 11 and 12 until there are 51 sts on needle, ending with a WS row. Lace Center Section Row 1 (RS): K3, yo, k1, *k2tog, yo; rep from * across to last 3 sts, k3—52 sts. Rows 2, 4 and 6: K3, purl across to
last 3 sts, k3. Row 3: K3, yo, *k2tog, yo; rep from *
across to last 3 sts, k3—53 sts. Row 5: K3, yo, k3tog, yo, *k2tog, yo;
rep from * across to last 3 sts, k3. 2nd Half Row 1 (RS): K3, yo, k3tog, knit to last
5 sts, k2tog, yo, k3—52 sts. Row 2: K3, purl across to last 3 sts, k3. Rep Rows 1 and 2 until 10 sts rem,
ending with a RS row. Tip Row 1 (WS): Knit. Row 2: K3, k2tog, knit to end—9 sts. Rep Rows 1 and 2 until 6 sts rem, end
ing with a WS row. Knit 4 rows. Bind off. Weave in ends. Fringe Cut rem yarn into 71/2-inch strands. *Fold 2 strands in half. With RS facing and beg at tip of 1 end, use crochet hook to draw folded end from RS to WS. Pull loose ends through folded section and tighten knot firmly (see page 111). Rep from *, spacing fringes evenly along each diagonal side and making sure to place 1 fringe centered in tip. Trim even.
