A sim­ple vest with a faux col­lar takes lit­tle tal­ent be­cause you sim­ply cro­chet one square for the back and two rec­tan­gles for the front. You de­ter­mine the width of each front as for the V-neck top above, by di­vid­ing the width of a square front in half. Sew fronts to back at shoul­der line, leav­ing an 8-inch neck open­ing across the back and leav­ing 4 inches free at cen­ter on each front. Sew side seam, leav­ing arm­hole open­ing. Voilà! The free up­per fronts fold back nat­u­rally to form lapels. Of course, all you have to do to turn this lit­tle gem into a jacket or coat is to cro­chet longer rec­tan­gles and then add sleeves.
