and #2167 dew­berry 1 skein #2175 fen­nel • Size H/8/5mm cro­chet hook or

size needed to ob­tain gauge • Size 36/20mm knit­ting nee­dle:

32-inch cir­cu­lar • Ta­pes­try nee­dle • Straight pins

GAUGE

1 Flower Mo­tif = 5 inches blocked

PAT­TERN NOTES

Mo­tifs are con­structed in­di­vid­u­ally and at­tached on the last round. Al­ter­nat­ing fuch­sia and dew­berry, make 32 fuch­sia and 31 dew­berry and join as work pro­gresses fol­low­ing Place­ment Di­a­gram. Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. When pick­ing up stitches for broom­stick, pick up stitches for half the Mo­tif, draw the nee­dle through, fold it in half, and then pick up the stitches for the 2nd sec­tion (mak­ing a Magic Loop). Pay at­ten­tion to where you are at­tach­ing the Mo­tifs, so you do not at­tach any in the wrong place. Chain-3 at be­gin­ning of round counts as first dou­ble cro­chet un­less oth­er­wise stated. Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated.

SPE­CIAL STITCH

Broom­stick Lace: Broom­stick Lace is worked as 2 rnds. Rnd 1: Pull lp that is on hook up and slip lp on knit­ting nee­dle, [in­sert hook in back lp (see Stitch Guide) of next sc, pull up lp and slide on nee­dle. In­sert hook in front lp (see

Stitch Guide) of same sc, pull up lp and slide on nee­dle] rep un­til there are 27 lps on nee­dle. Pull ca­ble part of knit­ting nee­dle out through, leav­ing 2 lps on front nee­dle and 25 on the ca­ble form­ing Magic Loop (if you pull the knit­ting nee­dle through all the way, the last sts can tighten up

on you), rep un­til 49 lps on the nee­dle in to­tal, 24 on the knit­ting nee­dle, and 25 on the ca­ble of the nee­dle.

Rnd 2: Slide 4 lps to tip of knit­ting nee­dle. Be­ing care­ful to make sure yarn lies flat, in­sert cro­chet hook in the 4 lps, pull yarn through, ch 1, mak­ing sure the st is at the top of the 4 lps on nee­dle, and not close to the pre­vi­ous rnd. Make 1 sc in the 4 lps, slide com­pletely off the nee­dle, sc twice more in set of 4 lps, [sc 3 times in next 4 lps on nee­dle, ch 4, sc 3 times in same set of 4 lps, slide lps off nee­dle] 9 times; in next set of 5 lps, work 3 sc in next lps on nee­dle, ch 4, work 3 sc in same set of 4 lps, slide lps off nee­dle, 3 sc in start­ing lps, ch 4, sl st in first sc of rnd.

THROW FIRST FLOWER MO­TIF

Rnd 1: With cro­chet hook and fuch­sia make a slip ring (see il­lus­tra­tion), ch 3 (see Pat­tern Notes), dc 11 times in ring, join (see Pat­tern Notes) in 3rd ch of

beg ch-3. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as beg ch-3, 2 dc in each st around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (24 dc)

Rnd 3: Draw lp that is on hook up and slip lp on knit­ting nee­dle, [in­sert hook in back lp (see

Rnds 1–3: With hook and dew­berry, rep rnds 1–3 of First Flower Mo­tif.

Rnd 4: Work as for rnd 4 of First Flower Mo­tif, but re­place first ch 4 with [ch 2, join to pre­vi­ous mo­tif with sl st, ch 2] twice for 2 join­ing places on Mo­tifs. Fas­ten off. Con­tinue work­ing 2nd Flower Mo­tif un­til there are a to­tal of 7 Mo­tifs across, al­ter­nat­ing col­ors. Beg work­ing 2nd row, join­ing each Mo­tif as it is worked. Work 3rd Flower Mo­tif for rem Mo­tifs.

3RD FLOWER MO­TIF

Rnds 1–3: With hook, rep rnds 1–3 of First Flower Mo­tif al­ter­nat­ing col­ors.

Rnd 4: Work as for other Mo­tif, but re­place first ch 4 with [ch 2, join to pre­vi­ous mo­tif with sl st, ch 2] twice for 2 join­ing places on Mo­tif, work next ch 4 as nor­mal, for next 2 ch 4’s, [ch 2, join to pre­vi­ous Mo­tif with sl st] twice for 2 join­ing places, mo­tif should now be joined to 2 mo­tifs, at a right an­gle from each other. Fas­ten off. Con­tinue with next 5 Mo­tifs work­ing 3rd Flower Mo­tif. Fol­low­ing Place­ment Di­a­gram, rep rows 2 and 3 un­til Throw has 9 rows of 7 Mo­tifs each.

FILL-IN LEAF MO­TIFS

Make 48.

Rnd 1: With hook and fen­nel, rep rnd 1 of First Flower Mo­tif.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, sc in next st, *ch 2, sl st in cor­ner of Flower Mo­tif, ch 2, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * twice, ch 2, sl st in cor­ner of Flower Mo­tif, ch 2, sc in next st, join in beg sc. Fas­ten off. Work Leaf Mo­tifs in each sp made by the join­ing of 4 Flower Mo­tifs.

EDG­ING

Rnd 1: With hook, join fen­nel in ch-4 sp, ch 1, sc twice in same ch-4 sp, *ch 6, 3 sc in next ch-4 sp, rep from * around en­tire Throw, stop­ping on last ch-4 sp be­fore point where joined, ch 3, dc in beg ch-4 sp.

Rnd 2: Work 5 sc over post of dc st made at end of rnd 1, *sk next 3 sc, 10 sc in next ch-6 sp, rep from * un­til there are no more ch-6 sps, sk next 3 sc, 5 sc over ch-3 sp, join in beg sc. Fas­ten off.

FIN­ISH­ING

Wet-block Throw to mea­sure­ments, pin­ning out edg­ing.
