PAT­TERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Shrug length­ens when worn. Chain-3 at be­gin­ning of row counts as first dou­ble cro­chet un­less oth­er­wise stated.

SPE­CIAL STITCHES

First foun­da­tion sin­gle cro­chet (first foun­da­tion sc): Ch 2, in­sert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 1 lp on hook (see il­lus­tra­tion A— ch-1 com­pleted), yo, pull though all lps on hook (see il­lus­tra­tions B and C—sc com­pleted). Shell: Fptr (see Stitch Guide) around cen­ter dc of next 3- dc group, work­ing be­hind fptr just made, 3 dc in top of same dc, work­ing in front of sts just made, fptr around same dc again. Sin­gle cro­chet join (sc join): Place a slip knot on hook, in­sert hook in in­di­cated st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

Side Edg­ing

With RS fac­ing and work­ing in ends of rows across 1 side edge, sc join (see Spe­cial Stitches) in first row, 2 sc in each row across to last row, sc in last row. Fas­ten off. Rep across other side edge.

FIN­ISH­ING

Fold piece in half width­wise, bring­ing first and last rows tog, match­ing sts of Side Edg­ing. Beg at cor­ner, sew 91/2 inches of side edges tog, leav­ing 81/2 inches un­sewn at top for arm­hole open­ing. Rep to join other side edge.
