PATTERN NOTES

Each Tunisian row is worked in 2 steps: the forward pass and the return pass to work loops off hook. Each vertical bar of row 1 counts as a stitch. First loop on hook is counted as a stitch unless otherwise stated. You may find it easier to count rows from wrong side of work. Do not skip first chain from hook to work stitches on foundation row. There are 4 stitch markers used to separate the cable panels from the texture panels. Place stitch markers around return pass chain between stitches. Move markers up in place with each row. Once cable texture pattern is established, these markers may be removed if desired. A 5th stitch marker is placed at the right selvage to mark the cable crossing row. This aids in counting rows between crossings. Move marker up at the beginning of each new crossing row.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Work loops off hook (work lps off hook): Ch 1 (see A of illustration), [yo, pull through 2 lps on hook (see B of illustration)] across. Last lp on hook counts as first lp of next row. Tunisian Knit Stitch ( TKS): Insert hook through work from front to back between strands of next vertical bar (see illustration), yo, pull lp through. Tunisian Purl Stitch ( TPS): Bring yarn to front of work, with yarn in front of hook insert hook from left to right under next vertical bar, wrap yarn in front of st and around hook (see illustration), pull up lp.
