• Spud & Chloe Sweater medium ( worsted) weight wool/ cotton yarn ( 31/2 oz/ 160 yds/ 100g per skein): 1 [ 1,2, 2] skein( s) # 7524 chocolate milk 1 [ 1,2, 2] skein( s) # 7504 lake • Sizes G/ 6/ 4mm and H/ 8/ 5mm crochet hooks
or sizes needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle
Size G hook: 14 dc = 4 inches; 7 dc rows = 4 inches Size H hook in shell pattern: 3 shells = 41/2 inches; 5 rows = 4 inches Take time to check gauge.
Weave in ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain- 4 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet and chain-1 unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round in Waistband counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round in Shell Pattern counts as first single crochet and chain-2 unless otherwise stated.
First foundation single crochet (first foundation sc): Ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 1 lp on hook (see illustration A— ch-1 completed), yo, pull through both lps on hook (see illustrations B and C—sc completed). Next foundation single crochet (next foundation sc): [Insert hook in last ch-1 made (see illustration A), yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 1 lp on hook (see illustration B— ch-1 completed), yo, pull through both lps on hook (see illustrations C and D—sc completed)] A as indicated. V- stitch ( V- st): (Sc, ch 2, sc) in indicated st. Shell: 5 dc in indicated st or ch- sp of indicated V- st.
With size G hook and chocolate milk, first foundation sc (see Special Stitches), work 69 [73, 77, 81] next foundation sc (see Special Stitches), join (see Pattern Notes) in first st being careful not to twist. (70 [74, 78, 82] sts)
Rnd 1: Ch 4 (see Pattern Notes), *sk 1, dc in next st, ch 1, rep from * to last st, join in 3rd ch of beg ch- 4.
Rnds 2–7: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), dc in each st around, join in top of beg ch-3.
Sizes 6 & 8 Only Rnds [8& 9]: Rep rnd 2.
All Sizes Next rnd: Ch 3, dc in st at base of ch-3, dc in each st around, join in top of beg ch-3. (71 [75, 79, 83] sts)
Next rnd: Rep last rnd, changing color (see Stitch Guide) to lake in last dc, join top of beg ch-3. (72 [76, 80, 84] sts)
Rnd 1: With size H hook, ch 1, sc in same st as join, *sk next st, shell (see Special Stitches) in next st, sk next st, sc in next st*, rep from * to last 3 sts, sk next st, shell in next st, join in first sc. (18 [19, 20, 21] shells, 18 [19, 20, 21] sc) Rnd 2: With chocolate milk, ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), sc in same st as join, *ch 2, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, sk next 2 dc, V- st (see Special Stitches) in next sc, rep from * to last shell, ch 2, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, join in first ch in beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: With lake, ch 1, sc in last sc, *shell in next V- st, sc in next sc, rep from * to last V- st, shell in last V- st, join in first sc. [Rep rnds 2 and 3] 8 [10, 12, 14] times. Fasten off.
With lake and size H hook, work foundation sc until Tie is 38 inches long or desired length.
Using end of yarn, close the gap between first and last foundation sts and weave in end. Weave in other ends. Work Tie through sps of rnd 1 of Waistband.
My daughter Alivia and my 6 nieces were the inspiration for this skirt. They are all beautiful girls and love to be outside. I thought they all should be wrapped in the wonderful flowers that they love to play in. — Anna Hersey
