SPE­CIAL STITCHES

Afghan knit stitch ( afghan knit st): Insert hook in 2nd ver­ti­cal bar, yo, draw up lp, [ re­tain­ing all lps on hook, insert hook in next ver­ti­cal bar, yo, draw up a lp] across. Work loops off hook ( work lps off hook): Yo, draw through 1 lp on hook ( see A of il­lus­tra­tion), [ yo, draw through 2 lps on hook ( see B of il­lus­tra­tion)] across. Last lp on hook counts as first st of next row. Afghan stitch color change ( afghan st color change): Work­ing across, pick up in­di­cated num­ber of lps of work­ing color, to change color, drop work­ing color to WS, insert hook in next ver­ti­cal bar and draw up new color, draw up in­di­cated num­ber of lps, then change color as in­di­cated. Note: When same color ap­pears with 3 or fewer sts of an­other color be­tween, the first color may be car­ried across the back. If more than 3 sts join a new ball, do not carry across. Work loops off hook on color change: Work lps off hook with match­ing color un­til 1 st is left of the color, change col­ors pick­ing up yarn to be used un­der color pre­vi­ously used, thus twist­ing col­ors to pre­vent a hole in work. New color will be drawn through 1 lp of pre­vi­ous color and 1 lp of new color. When a color is no longer needed, leave 10- inch length to be wo­ven in on WS of Afghan and fas­ten off.

Rows 2–7: Rep afghan knit st un­til 7 rows are com­pleted. Rows 8–32: Work­ing in afghan knit st, fol­low­ing chart, work across with off- white, change color ( see Spe­cial Stitches) as in­di­cated to taupe. Rows 33–45: With off- white, rep afghan knit st un­til 14 rows are com­pleted. [ Rep rows 8– 45 con­sec­u­tively] 3 times. Rep rows 8– 32.
