• Lion Brand Yarn Man­dala light ( DK) weight acrylic yarn ( 51/ 3 oz/ 590 yds/ 150g per ball):

1 ball # 216 sphinx • Size I/ 9/ 5.5mm cro­chet hook or size

needed to ob­tain gauge • Tapestry nee­dle • Block­ing mat • Block­ing pins or T- pins

GAUGE

4 sc = 1 inch; 4 rows = 2 inches

PAT­TERN NOTES

Check gauge fre­quently and do not make long loop stitches longer than 1 inch so that Shawl in­clud­ing Fringe can be com­pleted with 1 ball. Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Af­ter a few long loop stitches have ac­cu­mu­lated on hook, drop all loops ex­cept last loop made and con­tinue work­ing across the row. At end of row, only 1 loop should re­main on hook. Last slip stitch of row 3 is counted as first slip stitch of row 4. Chain- 4 at be­gin­ning of row counts as first dou­ble cro­chet and chain-1 un­less oth­er­wise stated.

SPE­CIAL STITCHES

Be­gin­ning long loop stitch ( beg lg lp st): Ch 1, pull up a 1- inch lp, place thumb on top of lp to hold in place on hook. Long loop stitch ( lg lp st): In­sert hook in next sc, yo and pull up a lp, sl st in next sc, ch 1, pull up a 1- inch lp, place thumb on top of lp to hold in place on hook.

Row 1: Ch 34, dc in 6th ch from hook (beg 5 sk chs count as ch 1, first dc and sk ch), [ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch]. Rep be­tween [ ] to last 4 chs. 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, 2 dc in last ch, turn. (18 dc, 15 chs)

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first dc, 1 sc in next dc, 1 sc in next ch, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each rem ch and dc, work­ing last sc in 4th ch of beg ch-5, turn. (35 sc)

Row 3: Beg lg lp st (see Spe­cial Stitches), work lg lp sts (see Spe­cial Stitches) across, re­mov­ing lps from hook pe­ri­od­i­cally (see Pat­tern Notes), leav­ing last lp on hook, yo and draw through last lp, sl st (see Pat­tern Notes) in sp be­tween sin­gle and dou­ble strands, turn. FIN­ISH­ING Fringe

Cut 50 12- inch strands of yarn. Fold 5- strand hank in half. In­sert hook from RS in first ch-1 sp of row 1, pull folded end through, catch­ing beg and end tails with hook, pull ends through fold, pull ends to tighten knot. Rep in 5th, 9th, 13th and 17th ch-1 sp. Rep in same ch-1 sps of row 134. Trim ends evenly. Wet- block to fin­ished mea­sure­ments.
