PAT­TERN NOTES

Join with slip stitch un­less oth­er­wise stated. Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Pre- string beads onto yarn us­ing bead­ing nee­dle. To work into 3rd Bar of stitches: Ig­nore top 2 loops of in­di­cated stitch, in­sert hook into next 3rd hor­i­zon­tal or back bar of stitch.

AS­SEM­BLE MO­TIFS

With 2 Mo­tifs WS tog, join cof­fee through both lps of first layer and top lp of 2nd layer of any corner fptr, ch 1, sl st in same place, in­sert­ing hook through both lay­ers in same man­ner, (ch 1, sl st) in each st across to next corner fptr, (sl st, ch 1, sl st) in corner fptr. Fas­ten off. Rep to seam 4 Mo­tifs tog to form first Cen­ter Square. Rep with 4 more Mo­tifs to form 2nd Cen­ter Square.

Foun­da­tion rnd: With RS of Cen­ter Square fac­ing and work­ing in 3rd bar of sts, sc join 2 strands teal to any corner fptr, [sc in each st across to next fptr, hdc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 fptr at seam, sc in each st across to next fptr, 3 sc in next st] 3 times, end­ing with 2 sc in same st as first st, join to top of first sc. Row 1: Sk 3- sc group in any corner, join 2 strands teal to next st, [sc dec in next 2 sts] twice, [sc in next st, dc in next st] across to last 5 sts be­fore next 3- sc group in next corner, [sc dec in next 2 sts] twice, sk last st be­fore 3- sc group, turn. (41 sts)

Row 2: Sl st in first st, [sc dec in next 2 sts] twice, [dc in next st, sc in next st] across to last 5 sts, [sc dec in next 2 sts] twice, sk last st, turn. (35 sts)

Rnd 1: Join cof­fee in both lps of any corner fptr of Cen­ter Square, ch 1, [sl st in next st, ch 1] around outer edges of Cen­ter Square, join in first st. Fas­ten off. Rep on 2nd Cen­ter Square.

BAG EDG­ING

Rnd 1: With RS fac­ing, sc join 2 strands teal to any st of last row of Side Pan­els, work sc evenly sp around outer edges of all 4 side pan­els, join in front lp of first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 4, tr in front lp of each st around, join in top of beg ch- 4. Fas­ten off. Rep for 2nd Cen­ter Square.

GUSSET

Make 2.

First Half Row 1 (RS): With teal, ch 76, work­ing in back bar of chs (see il­lus­tra­tion), sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (75 sc) Rows 2– 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 5: Sl st in first st and in each of next 9 sts, sc in each st across, turn. (65 sc)

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each of next 49 sts, turn leav­ing rem sts un­worked. (49 sc)

Row 7: Sl st in first st and in each of next 4 sts, sc in each st across, turn. (44 sc)

Row 8: Ch 1, sc in each of next 40 sts, turn leav­ing rem sts un­worked. (40 sc)

Row 9: Rep row 7. (35 sc)

Top of Gusset Edg­ing Next row: Work­ing in ends of rows, work 22 sc across wide end. Fas­ten off. (22 sc)

Han­dles Row 1 (RS): Leav­ing an 8- inch tail of 2 strands teal, ch 62, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (61 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in front lp of each st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in back lp of each st across, turn.

Row 4: Lengthen and re­move lp from hook, fold han­dle WS tog around 6-inch ring, with op­po­site side of foun­da­tion ch fac­ing, work­ing over ring and through both lay­ers, in­sert hook through first ch of foun­da­tion ch, put lp back on hook and pull through ch on hook, in­sert­ing hook into both the next foun­da­tion ch and next sc of row 3, sl st across. Fas­ten off, leav­ing an 8-inch tail. Slide and stretch han­dle ends along ring un­til only 51/2 inches of ring rem un­cov­ered and tightly knot tails tog to se­cure.

ASSEM­BLY

Large Ring Assem­bly With WS of Bag Edg­ing fac­ing and 14- inch ring in front of WS of Bag, in­sert hook through front lp of beg ch- 4, over ring and into un­worked lp at base of beg ch- 4, yo with teal, pull through all lps on hook (sl st made), [sl st around, in­sert­ing hook each time in front lp only of next tr, over ring and into un­worked lp at base of same tr, join to beg sl st. Fas­ten off. Rep for 2nd side of Bag.

Han­dle Assem­bly With WS of First Bag Side fac­ing, place top edge of han­dle ap­prox­i­mately 3 inches above bag top edge and cen­tered over Cen­ter Square corner. Use teal and nee­dle to sew ends of han­dle se­curely to WS of bag. Rep to add 2nd han­dle in same man­ner to 2nd Bag Side.

Fin­ish­ing Sep­a­rate 1-yd length of cof­fee into plies and use 1 strand to sew 1 bead to cen­ter of front square and 6 beads around cen­ter bead. Sep­a­rate 1-yd length of teal in same man­ner and use 1 strand and sewing nee­dle to sew outer edge of felt cir­cle to WS of each bag slightly un­der Large Ring Assem­bly sts. With short ends of Gus­sets RS tog, whip­stitch (see il­lus­tra­tion) bot­tom seam. Cen­ter long side edges of Gusset WS tog along Bag Edg­ing, hav­ing Gusset seam cen­tered at bot­tom. With Gusset fac­ing and teal slip knot on hook, beg at widest part of Gusset, sl st through un­worked lp of first tr of Bag Edg­ing and into first st of Gusset, in­sert­ing hook into next tr of bag and into cor­re­spond­ing st of Gusset, sl st around, eas­ing Gusset where nec­es­sary to join Bag and Gusset tog. Fas­ten off. Flip bag over and rep to add Gusset to 2nd Bag Side. String 9 beads onto 1 strand teal and tie se­curely around 1 end of han­dle. Rep for each rem han­dle end.

Op­tional: Sew snap set to up­per por­tion on WS of bag if clo­sure is de­sired.
