• Lion Brand Jeans medium ( worsted) weight acrylic yarn ( 31/2 oz/ 246 yds/ 100g per ball): 1 ball each # 105 faded, # 109 stonewash, # 110 classic, # 150 vintage, # 153 stovepipe 3 balls # 108 brand new • Size J/ 10/ 6mm crochet hook or size needed
to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle
Square motif = 8 (81/2, 9) inches square
Weave in ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch unless otherwise indicated. Garment takes 8 squares: 1 faded, 2 stonewash, 1 classic, 1 vintage, 2 stovepipe, 1 brand new. Or you can mix any colors you like.
PONCHO SQUARE MOTIF
Make 8 (see Pattern Notes). Ch 68 (72, 76).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 31 (33, 35) chs, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 3 chs, sc in next 32 (34, 36) chs. Ch 1, turn. [32 (34, 36) sc on either side of center sc dec]
Row 2: Working in back lps only (see Stitch Guide), sc in 31 (33, 35) sc, sc dec in next 3 sts, sc in next 31 (33, 35) sc working last sc in both lps. Ch 1, turn. [31 (33, 35) sc on either side of center sc dec]
Row 3: Working in back lps only, sc in each sc across to 1 sc before dec, sc dec in next 3 sts, sc in each sc across working last sc in both lps. Ch 1, turn. [30 (32, 34) sc on either side of center sc dec]
Rows 4–32 (4–34, 4–36): Rep row 3. [Each row will have 1 less sc on each side of center sc dec than the previous row. 1 sc on either side of center sc dec at end of last row.]
Last row: Working in back lps only, sc dec in last 3 sts. Fasten off.
Whipstitch (see illustration) Squares tog according to Assembly Diagram, placing starting ch at top for all squares. Join Front to Back at stovepipe Squares.
Join (see Pattern Notes) brand new to any opposite lp of foundation ch at top neck edge.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st. Work sc around entire neck opening as follows: Sc in each ch and work 1 or 2 sc at seams of Squares. At the center Front and Back work sc dec in 3 sts. Join in beg ch-1. Ch 1, turn.
Rnds 2–17: Working in back lps only, sc in same st and each st around working sc dec in 3 sts at center Front and Back. Join in beg ch-1. Ch 1, turn.
Border rnd: Sl st loosely in each st around. Fasten off.
Join brand new to any row edge at bottom of Poncho.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st, work sc around entire bottom edge, at corners work 3 sc. Join in beg ch-1. Ch 1, turn.
Rnds 2–17: Sc in same st and each st around, working 3 sc in each middle sc of corner. Join in beg ch-1. Ch 1, turn.
Border rnd: Sl st loosely in each st around, adding ch 1 at corners to ease. Fasten off. C!
