Le Boat, the Euro­pean self­drive canal-boat char­ter com­pany, is open­ing its first North Amer­i­can op­er­a­tion in 2018, with a base in Canada serv­ing On­tario’s Rideau Canal. Reservations are now be­ing taken for the sea­son, which runs May through Oc­to­ber. Opened in 1832, the canal is a des­ig­nated UNESCO World Her­itage site. old­est con­tin­u­ously op­er­at­ing canal in North Amer­ica. It is also a Cana­dian Na­tional His­toric Site and a Cana­dian Her­itage River.

The char­ter plat­form is a fleet of 16 Le Boat Hori­zon cruis­ers. Equipped with bow and stern thrusters for easy ma­neu­ver­ing in and out of locks, the Hori­zon is also com­pletely fend­ered for safety and has a capped speed just over 6 mph. For de­tails, con­tact Le Boat (
