at Soper’s Hole and into Great Har­bour on Jost Van Dyke, where we were one of ex­actly two yachts. It was like a sur­real step back in time to an­other era al­to­gether, to the way it once was. The land may well have been sav­aged, and the lack of com­pany was a pleas­ant but strange sen­sa­tion, but the fun­da­men­tal attractions — deep blue seas and a glo­ri­ous breeze — were pre­cisely the same as they ever were.
