Outdoor Space of the Week is back!

- BY MONA WEATHERLY Managing Editor

BROKEN BOW - The feature, Outdoor Space of the Week, was introduced with a photo of a garden shed in the yard of Steve and Deb Weatherly. This week, we take a peek inside that shed.

Inside we find a chair, bench, cushions and plenty of country-chic items. It’s airy and light with windows that can be propped open and a neutral and white color pallett. The floor is stencelled with distressed white on taupe.

Deb has decorated the shed with items found at garage sales, antique shops and retail stores. Most anyone who knows Deb also knows she has a flare for taking the simplest of items and turning them into simply beautiful decor.

Next to the shed, a weeping willow, water fountain and garden chairs complete a tranquil setting.

Deb said having a shed like this has been a lifelong dream and she truly appreciates Steve building it. “It’s really a quiet place to read and rest,” she said. “I am truly blessed.”

While being interviewed about her garden shed, Deb was quick to nominate her neighbor across the street, Doris Cole, for Outdoor Space of the week. “You should see her backyard,” Deb said.

A stroll around Doris’ yard shows creativity in every nook - old coffee kettles as planters, a concret fountain converted to a succulent garden, blue birds next to Hen and Chicks in a bird cage, a ladder stacked high with plants and more.

No single theme rules. “It’s everything and anything that strikes me,” Doris said. “I really enjoy it out here.”

Both Deb and Doris agree keeping up an outdoor space takes effort.

“It takes a lot of work,” Doris said.

“And a lot of water,” Deb added.

The outdoor spaces at Deb and Doris’s home provide quiet space as well as projects to express creativity. And there is alway more projects to be done. Doris said a bench needs to be painted and she wants to plant hostas to fill an empty space under a tree.

The ideas, like the water, keep flowing.

“Deb and I inspire one another,” Doris said.
