Coronavirus testing returns on July 28

- Democrat staff

The new testing site will be in Building 400 at the Woodland Community College, 2300 E. Gibson Road.

In a continuing effort to provide free coronavirus testing, the State-run OptumServe testing site will be returning to Woodland for four weeks from July 28 to Aug. 22.

About 50% of all confirmed COVID-19 cases in Yolo County have been located in Woodland, with a surge in cases occurring over the past three- to four weeks.

The new OptumServe testing site will be in Building 400 at the Woodland Community College, 2300 E. Gibson Road.

Appointments will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays by calling: (888) 6341123 or completing an online application at: https:// lhi.care/covidtesting. Usually, appointment slots are available by week and open the Thursday before.

The last time testing was offered in Woodland was about two months ago and it was at the Yolo County Fairgrounds.

Testing is open to anyone in the community regardless of documentation status. All ages are welcome.

If residents do not have health insurance, the cost of the test will be covered by the state. If residents have health insurance, their provider will be billed with no out of pocket cost.

This is not antibody testing; this is to test if individuals currently have COVID-19.

Residents must wear a face covering to their appointment and practice social distancing.

This location is not a drive-thru, so people will need to park their car and walk a short distance to the building. Woodland Community College will not be charging for parking during the four weeks the testing site is on campus though residents should use the West parking lot, which is closest to Building 400.

“We encourage community members to take advantage of this opportunity to obtain free testing locally,” said Chairman to the Yolo County Board of Supervisors Gary Sandy. “Safeguarding against COVID-19 is everyone’s responsibility. Protect yourself and your family members from infection by being tested. Testing is particularly important if you’ve been in a large group setting or with friends and family who reside outside Yolo County.”

“Our institution is proud to be part of the COVID-19 response in Yolo County,” said Woodland Community College President Art Pimentel. “As we navigate this pandemic together, it is critical that local institutions and government agencies work in partnership to provide emergency and essential services to our communities.”

The OptumServe site has been in Yolo County since May 5; the site was located at the Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland for four weeks and then moved to Club West in West Sacramento for eight weeks.

As of July 13, a total of 5,323 residents have been tested through OptumServe in Yolo County. This location will be able to test up to 135 people a day with test results available within 48 to 72 hours.
