Hunt­ing sea­sons for turkey, pheas­ant open Oct. 1

New York en­vi­ron­men­tal con­ser­va­tion of­fi­cials say the fall hunt­ing sea­sons for turkey, pheas­ant and wa­ter­fowl be­gins Oct. 1.

The Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­men­tal Con­ser­va­tion said the sea­son for wild turkey will run Oct. 1-14 in the state’s North­ern Zone, Oct. 15-28 in the South­ern Zone and Nov. 19 to Dec. 2 in Long Is­land’s Suf­folk County.

The statewide sea­son bag limit is one bird of ei­ther sex.

The depart­ment says about 30,000 adult pheas­ants will be re­leased on lands open to pub­lic hunt­ing. The pheas­ant sea­son be­gins Oct. 1 in the north­ern and eastern por­tions of the state, Oct. 15 in cen­tral and western re­gions and Nov. 1 on Long Is­land.

Adult hunt­ing sea­sons for wa­ter­fowl in­clud­ing ducks, coots, mer­gansers, snow geese and brant all be­gin Oct. 1 in south­east­ern New York.
