Spackenkil­l hands Rhinebeck its first loss

Spackenkil­l knocked the Rhinebeck High’s boys soccer team from the undefeated ranks, edging the Hawks, 1-0, in Mid-Hudson Athletic League play. Andrew Moreira scored the game's lone goal

Spackenkil­l handed the Rhinebeck High’s boys soccer team its first loss Saturday, edging the Hawks, 1-0, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League match.

Andrew Moreira gave the Spartans the lead off a Joey Guerriero assist with 17:15 left in regulation.

“It’s a rivalry game every time we play Rhinebeck,” Spackenkil­l coach Manny Blanco said. “It wasn’t the prettiest at times, but this tends to happen in great matchups. We played a cleaner, quicker game in the second half, and that proved to be decisive.”

Spackenkil­l is now 7-0 in the MHAL and 7-1 overall. Rhinebeck is 6-1-1 in the league and overall.

Goalkeeper Quinn McGinnis made three saves for the Spartans. Rhinebeck’s Ethan Viator made eight saves. Mount Academy 6, Coleman 0

At the Town of Ulster, Sean Kurtz had a pair of goals and one assist, Sejune Oh added a goal and two assists, Thomas Huleatt and Daniel Blough each had a goal and one assist and Seth Thompson also scored as Mount Academy rolled to its first win of the year.

Dean Blough needed to make only one save to record the shutout for the (1-4) Eagles.

Daniel Shultis stopped a dozen shots for (7-4) John A. Coleman Catholic.
