149 acres protected near Catskill Creek
The conservation initiative is a joint effort by Scenic Hudson and the Greene Land Trust.
TOWN OF CATSKILL >> Scenic Hudson and the Greene Land Trust have joined to protect 149 acres along the Catskill Creek.
The arrangement is intended to provide outdoor recreation and help the community mitigate flooding, the groups said.
The Greene Land Trust will manage the land acquired as part of Scenic Hudson’s “Save the Land That Matters Most” campaign.
The property, just upstream from the village of Catskill, includes more than 2 miles of shoreline on Catskill Creek, a Hudson River tributary.
Scenic Hudson acquired 144 of the acres. A neighboring landowner donated a conservation easement of 5 adjacent acres to the Greene Land Trust.
Plans for the property include developing marked walking paths that will connect visitors to a meadow and the creek’s shoreline.
