Route 28 mo­tor­cy­cle crash claims man’s life

OLIVE >> A 63-year-old Peek­skill man died from in­juries he suf­fered af­ter strik­ing the rear of a stopped ve­hi­cle while driv­ing his mo­tor­cy­cle on state Route 28, state po­lice said Mon­day,

Robert Re­nis was west­bound on Route 28, a quar­ter-mile west of Moun­tain Road, when the col­li­sion oc­curred at 10:25 a.m. Satur­day, po­lice said. Po­lice said Re­nis’ mo­tor­cy­cle struck the rear of a 2009 Toy­ota Yaris that was stopped on Route 28 and pre­par­ing to make a left turn into a busi­ness’ park­ing lot.

Re­nis was thrown from the mo­tor­cy­cle and struck the car be­fore fall­ing to the pave­ment, po­lice said. They said he was flown to Westch­ester Med­i­cal Cen­ter, where he died in the op­er­at­ing room. Po­lice said Re­nis had been alone on the mo­tor­cy­cle and was wear­ing a hel­met.

Po­lice said the driver of the car, Emma Derosa, 25, of Rosendale, was not hurt.

No tick­ets were is­sued, po­lice said.

Route 28 was closed for about 3 hours af­ter the crash, po­lice said.
