SAUGERTIES >> The Esopus Creek Conservancy and John Burroughs Natural History Society, in conjunction with the 13th annual Lark in the Park, are co-sponsoring a guided mushroom walk Saturday, Oct. 1.

Prof. Bill Bakaitis, founder of the Mid-Hudson Mycological Association, will guide attendees as they explore a local woodland in search of ground and wood-dwelling mycelia. Attendees should meet at 9 a.m. in the northeast corner of Saugerties Plaza near the credit union on U.S. Route 9W, just south of the village of Saugerties. They will carpool to the site.

Attendees should bring field guides and cameras if they have them. Collecting is not permitted. Be prepared for potentially wet and muddy conditions, and moderate rain. Heavy rains will cancel the walk.

Children are welcome, but pets are not allowed. To register, email Steve Chorvas via email at schorvas@gmail.com.
