Walk­way event aims to cut food waste

POUGH­KEEP­SIE » The Hud­son Val­ley Re­gional Coun­cil, Feed­back, Dutchess Out­reach, Res­cu­ing Left­over Cui­sine and other re­gional and com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions will pro­mote ways to re­duce food waste from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Satur­day, Oct. 8, at Walk­way Over the Hud­son State Park.

“Feed­ing the Hud­son Val­ley” will be tak­ing over the walk­way in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Food Bank of the Hud­son Val­ley’s Walk to Fight Hunger. Hun­dreds of mem­bers of the pub­lic will be pro­vided a free feast, sourced from fresh, top-qual­ity pro­duce that would have been wasted.

Lead­ing up to the feast will be a se­ries of events to bring at­ten­tion to the bounty of food pro­duced in the Hud­son Val­ley and the op­por­tu­ni­ties to re­duce food waste and get food to peo­ple in need.

Be­sides a free lunch, the Oct. 8 event will fea­ture live mu­sic, speak­ers, lo­cal chef demon­stra­tions, and ed­u­ca­tional ac­tiv­i­ties.
