Police: Jaywalker struck by car will be ticketed
A man struck by a car while jaywalking will be ticketed after he is released from the hospital, police said.
A man who was struck by a car while jaywalking on Partition Street in the village will be ticketed after he is released from the hospital, Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said Saturday.
At 12:46 p.m. Saturday, the man, who Sinagra did not identify, walked into traffic at 106 Partition St. and was struck. “He walked right in front of a car,” Sinagra said.
The driver, who was not injured, will not face any charges, Sinagra said.
“Pedestrians do not have the right of way unless they are in a crosswalk,” he said.
The pedestrian will be ticketed for failing to yield to a vehicle in a non-designated pedestrian crossing, Sinagra said. The victim was still at HealthAlliance Hospital’s Broadway Campus in Kingston, awaiting X-Rays late Saturday afternoon, the police chief said.
