Events aim to raise food waste aware­ness

On Satur­day, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. at the Walk­way Over the Hud­son, area res­i­dents will be pro­vided a free feast of fresh, top-qual­ity pro­duce that oth­er­wise might have been wasted, through “Feed­ing the Hud­son Val­ley,” part of an ini­tia­tive to raise aware­ness about food waste and ways to re­duce it.

There will be live mu­sic, ex­pert speak­ers, lo­cal chef demon­stra­tions, ed­u­ca­tional ac­tiv­i­ties and re­sources fo­cus­ing on food waste, food re­cov­ery, food waste preven­tion and feed­ing hun­gry peo­ple, not land­fills.

A se­ries of events lead­ing up to the feast are in­tended to bring at­ten­tion to the bounty of food pro­duced in the Hud­son Val­ley and op­por­tu­ni­ties to re­duce food waste and get food to peo­ple in need, in­clud­ing the screen­ing of a 75-minute doc­u­men­tary “Just Eat It,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Tues­day, Oct. 4, at BSP, 323 Wall St., Kingston. A dis­cus­sion of the doc­u­men­tary will fol­low.
