Ed­i­ble wild plants fo­cus of talk

WHAT: Talk, “Wild Plants I Have Known ... and Eaten” WHEN: Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Vas­sar Barns in the Vas­sar Farm and Eco­log­i­cal Pre­serve, 51 Vas­sar Farm Lane, Pough­keep­sie

DE­TAILS: Russ Co­hen, an ex­pert for­ager, will give a talk about na­tive ed­i­ble plants. Co­hen’s talk will fea­ture a 90-minute slide show show­ing species of na­tive ed­i­ble wild plants suit­able for adding to the land­scape, or nib­bling on if they are en­coun­tered in other lo­cales. He’ll dis­cuss keys to the iden­ti­fi­ca­tion of each species and high­light which por­tions are ed­i­ble. The talk will also ad­dress avail­abil­ity and prepa­ra­tion method(s), along with guide­lines for safe and en­vi­ron­men­tally re­spon­si­ble for­ag­ing. The pro­gram is free and open to the pub­lic.

Ukrainian Chil­dren’s Day pro­gram in El­lenville

WHAT: Ukrainian Chil­dren’s Day WHEN: Oct. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. WHERE: El­lenville Li­brary & Mu­seum, 40 Cen­ter St., El­lenville

DE­TAILS: Arts Mid-Hud­son Folk Arts Pro­gram, the li­brary and mu­seum, and the Ukrainian National Women’s League of Amer­ica Branch 95 present Ukrainian Chil­dren’s Day. Dur­ing the event, chil­dren can learn about Ukrainian chil­dren’s cul­ture through in­ter­ac­tive craft sta­tions led by vol­un­teers from the area Ukrainian com­mu­nity. The pro­gram is free and open to the pub­lic.
