Holz­mann out­lasts Wo­j­tow­icz to win Wood­stock Open fi­nal

Shawn Holz­mann out­lasted Jacek Wo­j­tow­icz in an epic 3 1/2-hour 6-4, 6-7 (15), 7-5 match for the men’s sin­gles cham­pi­onship in the Wood­stock Fall Open Ten­nis Tour­na­ment.

Holz­mann held on to win the first set, but Wo­j­tow­icz forced a third set by win­ning 17-15 in a sec­ond-set tiebreaker, fight­ing off three cham­pi­onsip points for Holz­mann. The two moved each other around the court in set three. Althought he started to cramp, Holz­mann broke through to win.

Sera Satkowski won the women’s ti­tle, sur­viv­ing a tough first set to beat Nok North 6-4, 6-0.

The men’s dou­bles fi­nal also went three sets with Vern Chrisjohn and Rob Sohm edg­ing Jess Chalfin and Ravi Ra­maswami 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-1.

Matt Can­zonetti and Karen Gill de­feated John Zerbo and Satkowski 6-4 for the mixed dou­bles crown.

Vivi­enne Hodges and Elyssa Staub held off a pair of Kingston High play­ers to win the women’s dou­bles fi­nal, 6-1, 7-5 over Vyda VanDen­berg and Lila Shih Free­man.
