Holzmann outlasts Wojtowicz to win Woodstock Open final
Shawn Holzmann outlasted Jacek Wojtowicz in an epic 3 1/2-hour 6-4, 6-7 (15), 7-5 match for the men’s singles championship in the Woodstock Fall Open Tennis Tournament.
Holzmann held on to win the first set, but Wojtowicz forced a third set by winning 17-15 in a second-set tiebreaker, fighting off three championsip points for Holzmann. The two moved each other around the court in set three. Althought he started to cramp, Holzmann broke through to win.
Sera Satkowski won the women’s title, surviving a tough first set to beat Nok North 6-4, 6-0.
The men’s doubles final also went three sets with Vern Chrisjohn and Rob Sohm edging Jess Chalfin and Ravi Ramaswami 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-1.
Matt Canzonetti and Karen Gill defeated John Zerbo and Satkowski 6-4 for the mixed doubles crown.
Vivienne Hodges and Elyssa Staub held off a pair of Kingston High players to win the women’s doubles final, 6-1, 7-5 over Vyda VanDenberg and Lila Shih Freeman.
