Heroin, opi­oid cri­sis fo­cus of event

The Ul­ster County In­ter­a­gency Task Force on Sub­stance Abuse Pre­ven­tion will host its sec­ond coun­ty­wide com­mu­nity event Oct. 19 to raise aware­ness of, and seek so­lu­tions to, the local heroin and opi­oid cri­sis.

The event will take place in the mu­sic as­sem­bly room at El­lenville Ele­men­tary School, 28 Maple Ave. Many local ser­vice re­sources and ser­vice providers will be avail­able be­gin­ning at 5:30 p.m. The fo­rum speak­ers will start at 6 p.m. Child­care will be avail­able.

At the fo­rum, par­tic­i­pants will be in­tro­duced to the re­al­i­ties of the epi­demic and be pro­vided with tools nec­es­sary to help pre­vent abuse, rec­og­nize its signs, un­der­stand the health and le­gal con­se­quences, get help, and find sup­port to cope with an abuse prob­lem or the loss of a loved one. Ex­perts from Ul­ster and Sul­li­van coun­ties rep­re­sent­ing the med­i­cal field, law en­force­ment, re­cov­ery cen­ters and hu­man ser­vices or­ga­ni­za­tions and agen­cies will an­swer ques­tions.
