Health officials: Mighty Taco beans may have sickened 100
Health officials say a batch of refried beans may be to blame for sickening more than 100 people who ate at a western New York Mighty Taco restaurant.
The Erie County Health Department said Friday it’s working with the state and Niagara County health officials to investigate reports of nausea and vomiting among customers of one of the fastfood chain’s 11 Erie County locations.
As of Friday afternoon, the county had heard from 104 people who’d eaten the restaurant’s refried beans between Sept. 27 and Oct. 6.
Health Commissioner Gale Burstein said samples are being sent to the state’s Wadsworth Center in Albany for testing, but that results aren’t expected for at least a week. Mighty Taco Chief Operating Officer Russell Jasulevich said Mighty Taco is cooperating with the investigation.
