WAL­LKILL >> Michael Al­giere of Wal­lkill, N.Y., a res­i­dent of the area died Thurs­day, Oct. 6, 2016, at home peace­fully with his fam­ily by his side. He was 80.

The son of James Ed­ward Al­giere and Marie (Grasso) Al­giere, he was born Oct. 16, 1935, in Pleas­antville, N.Y. He grew up in Mount Ver­non, N.Y., and worked for the Mount Ver­non Wa­ter De­part­ment for 10 years and the Tri­bor­ough Bridge and Tun­nel Author­ity for over 20 years.

His hob­bies in­cluded hunt­ing, fish­ing, golf­ing and car­pen­try. He was known by many around town as “the mayor” and al­ways loved to spark up a con­ver­sa­tion or crack a joke to any­one that would lis­ten whether he knew them or not. He also loved spend­ing time with all of his grand­chil­dren; they were his world.

He was pre­de­ceased by both par­ents and his sis­ter, Mary­Lou Al­giere.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife of 47 years, Rita Al­giere, at home; son, Vin­cent Al­giere, re­sid­ing in Pawl­ing, N.Y., and his chil­dren, Ni­co­lette and Daniel Al­giere; son, Al­fred Al­giere and (wife) Janet, re­sid­ing in Red Hook, N.Y., and their chil­dren, Denise and Al­fred; daugh­ter, Gina Van Leu­ven and (hus­band) Joseph, re­sid­ing in Gar­diner, N.Y., their chil­dren Austin and Mon­tana; daugh­ter, Danielle Skowron­ski and (hus­band) Robert, re­sid­ing in Huet­ten, Ger­many, and their chil­dren, Tay­lor, Ri­ley and Oliver Michael; and son, Michael Al­giere and (wife) Lisa of Chin­coteague, Va., and their daugh­ter, Stephanie.

Visi­ta­tion will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sun­day, Oct. 9, 2016, at Millspaugh Fu­neral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, N.Y.

A fu­neral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Mon­day, Oct. 10, 2016, at St. Bene­dict’s Chapel, Wal­lkill Av­enue, Wal­lkill, N.Y.

In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily asks for do­na­tions to be sent to Hospice of Orange and Sul­li­van, 800 Stony Brook Court, New­burgh, N.Y. 12550.
