Frank F. Meyer Sr., 89, of Canandaigua

Frank F. Meyer, Sr., age 89, of Ham­mocks Drive, for­merly of Elm Street, Sauger­ties, N.Y., died at F.F. Thomp­son Hos­pi­tal in Canandaigua on Mon­day, Oct. 5, 2016. He was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Springfield, Long Is­land, the son of Theresa (Primm) and Harry Meyer.

Frank served with the U.S. Ma­rine Corps from Oc­to­ber 1943 un­til Fe­bru­ary 1946 as a for­ward observer with the 15th Marines on Ok­i­nawa. He was wounded in com­bat on May 14, 1945, and was awarded the Pur­ple Heart, the Asi­atic Pa­cific Ser­vice Medal, the U.S. Navy Com­men­da­tion Medal, and the Pres­i­den­tial Unit Ci­ta­tion, as well as the Ex­pert Ri­fle­man Medal. He re­tired from Philips Elec­tron­ics Corp. in 1989 af­ter 36 years of ser­vice.

Frank served as trea­surer of Greene County Coun­cil D.A.V., was past Com­man­der of V.F.W. Post 5034, a mem­ber of Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 72, and a life mem­ber of the Mil­i­tary Or­der of the Pur­ple Heart. He served as trea­surer of his Se­nior Cit­i­zens group. When he moved to Canandaigua, N.Y., in 2013, he joined Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 256 and VFW Post 7414.

Sur­viv­ing are his son, Frank Jr., and daugh­ter-in­law, Siob­han McGuire, and many nieces and neph­ews.

He was pre­de­ceased by his wife, Florence, whom he mar­ried on Aug. 31, 1946, at St. Theresa’s Church in Brook­lyn, N.Y. He was also pre­de­ceased by two sis­ters, Josephine Meyer and Gertrude Ryan, and by three broth­ers, Henry, Ed­ward, and Lawrence Meyer.

His fu­neral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Wed­nes­day at Sea­mon-Wilsey Fu­neral Home Inc., cor­ner of John and Lafayette streets, Sauger­ties. In­ter­ment

with mil­i­tary hon­ors by Sauger­ties Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 72 will be in St. Mary’s Ceme­tery. Friends will be re­ceived Tues­day
