Churches tak­ing part in walk against hunger

SAUGER­TIES >> Churches in Sauger­ties and Wood­stock are invit­ing the pub­lic to com­bat hunger by par­tic­i­pat­ing in a CROP (Com­mu­ni­ties Re­spond­ing to Over­come Poverty) Walk on Sun­day, Oct. 16.

The lo­cal CROP walk will be­gin at 2 p.m., de­part­ing from the Re­formed Church of Sauger­ties, 173 Main St.

The CROP Walk be­gan in 1947 un­der the wing of Church World Ser­vice. Its pri­mary mission was to help Mid­west farm fam­i­lies share their grain with peo­ple threat­ened by hunger in Europe and Asia af­ter World War II. Today, the CROP Walk iden­ti­fies in­ter­faith hunger ed­u­ca­tion, as well as hunger ed­u­ca­tion and fundrais­ing events or­ga­nized by 21 re­gional of­fices na­tion­wide.

Walk­ers are in­vited to col­lect do­na­tions ahead of time or on the day of the event. Call Mar­garet Todd at (845) 5325687 to re­ceive an en­ve­lope for do­na­tions or for more in­for­ma­tion.
