Churches taking part in walk against hunger
SAUGERTIES >> Churches in Saugerties and Woodstock are inviting the public to combat hunger by participating in a CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk on Sunday, Oct. 16.
The local CROP walk will begin at 2 p.m., departing from the Reformed Church of Saugerties, 173 Main St.
The CROP Walk began in 1947 under the wing of Church World Service. Its primary mission was to help Midwest farm families share their grain with people threatened by hunger in Europe and Asia after World War II. Today, the CROP Walk identifies interfaith hunger education, as well as hunger education and fundraising events organized by 21 regional offices nationwide.
Walkers are invited to collect donations ahead of time or on the day of the event. Call Margaret Todd at (845) 5325687 to receive an envelope for donations or for more information.
