New Paltz routs de­fend­ing champ Marl­boro

This is what they call a game changer or, more ap­pro­pri­ately, a di­vi­sion changer.

New Paltz High claimed sole pos­ses­sion of first place in Sec­tion 9, Class B Di­vi­sion-I foot­ball with a dom­i­nant 34-7 tri­umph over five-time de­fend­ing cham­pion Marl­boro.

Kenny and Jimmy Ver­ney each ran for four touch­downs to lead the Huguenots, who im­proved their record to 5-1 over­all and 3-0 in the di­vi­sion. Marl­boro is now 2-1 di­vi­sion and 4-2 over­all.

It is the first time New Paltz has beaten the Dukes since the 2010 Class B ti­tle game.

Kenny Ver­ney, be­hind a solid per­for­mance from the of­fen­sive line, ram­bled for 114 yards. He scored on a 2-yard run and, off a Marl­boro fum­ble, Jimmy raced 10 yards for a TD. Ku­mar Singh’s 46-yard TD run had New Paltz ahead 21-0 16 min­utes into the game.

John Perug­ino’s jug­gling 51yard catch and run got Marl­boro on the board, but the Huguenots an­swered with a 16-yard score from Kenny Ver­ney to make it 28-7 at half­time.

Ver­ney sealed the vic­tory in the sec­ond half.

At High­land, Ron­d­out got back to .500 (3-3 over­all, 1-3 Class B Di­vi­sion I) by pulling out a fourth-quar­ter win over (0-3, 2-4) High­land.

Mike Mal­heiro rushed for 115 yards and Isiah Daubon ran for 91 yards and one touch­down and passed for 102 for High­land. War­wick 28, Roo­sevelt 7

AT Hyde Park, Gene Decker tossed two touch­down passes to Con­nor Perez to lead (2-2, 2-4) War­wick in a Class AA Di­vi­sion II game.

E.J. Bu­dai ran for

one TD and Tyler Van Steen­burgh had an in­ter­cep­tion for (1-3, 3-3) Roo­sevelt. Spack­enkill 63, El­lenville 0

At Pough­keep­sie, Cam­ron Aba­los ran for 85 yards and two touch­downs and also threw for 90 and two more scores to lead (40, 5-1) Spack­enkill in its Home­com­ing win over (0-4, 0-6) El­lenville.

The Spar­tans had a pair of spe­cial teams TDs in the Class B Di­vi­sion II win as Adam Loughran re­turned a blocked punt for a score and Mar­lon Brooks had a 55-yard in­ter­cep­tion re­turn. Dover 48, Pine Plains 0

At Dover Plains, Jaquon Futrell ran for 219 yards and two touch­downs on just six car­ries and also threw two TDs to An­gus Ed­mund­son to lead (2-3, 3-3) Dover over (1-4, 1-5) Pine Plains/Rhinebeck in a Class B Di­vi­sion II game.
