Kingston seventhgrader Lila Shih Freeman qualified for the Section 9 girls tennis tournament after reaching the quarterfinals of the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association tourney at the Match Point Complex.

Freeman had to beat her own teammate, Raquelle DeCicco, in the Round of 16 to earn the sectional berth. The 12-year-old lost in the quarters to Valley Central’s Sera Satkowski, runnerup in sectionals the last three years.

DeCicco played an outbracket match, defeating Kate Lisotta of James I. O’Neill 6-1, 6-1.

Freeman, who was seeded eighth in the tourney, then beat DeCicco 6-2, 6-3. Reaching the quarterfinals automatically qualifies the player for sectionals. Satkowski, the second seed, downed Freeman 6-4, 6-1.

The Section 9 tournament starts Oct. 18 at Match Point.
