Kingston blanks Sauger­ties in non-league match

Kingston High shut out a tough Sauger­ties team 2-0 in nonleague boys soc­cer Satur­day.

Full­back Nick Jansen took Andy Lopez’s as­sist and sailed a long ball over Sawyer goal­keeper Seth Van­der­beck in the first half and Timmy Ruzzo con­verted a penalty kick in the sec­ond half to lead the (56-1) Tigers.

Kingston had been pre­par­ing for this ri­valry game.

“Sauger­ties’ top scorer Sam Bagshaw was a threat re­peat­edly in the first half. Eli Con­ners, Nick Jansen and Luke Ber­na­dine put in a lot of work this week prac­tic­ing against Sauger­ties’s style of play,” Kingston coach James Franklin said. “Josh McNutt only had to make three saves with their steady de­nial of pen­e­tra­tion.”

Van­der­beck had five saves for (9-5) Sauger­ties in the loss.

Kingston is home to Val­ley Central on Tues­day, Mount Academy 3, El­dred 0

At El­dred, Mount Academy evened its record to 5-5 as Se­june Oh, Sean Kurtz and Zane Arnold all scored to lead the Ea­gles.

Thomas Huleatt and Tim Ca­vanna had as­sists and Dean Blough made a pair of saves for Mount Academy.
