Two teens killed in one-car accident
SLATE HILL >> Two teens were killed and three other passengers were hospitalized in a speed-related one-car crash early Sunday morning on U.S. Route 6, according to state police.
State police at Greenville said the vehicle’s driver, Vincent J. Peluso, 19, of Middletown, died after being taken from the scene to Orange Regional Medical Center. Jared B. Santillo, 19, of Monticello, who was sitting in the back seat, died at the scene. After a preliminary investigation, police determined Peluso was driving his Ford F 350 pickup too fast around 2:09 a.m. as he approached a bend on a stretch of highway dampened by recent rains, causing the pickup to slide off the road and strike a utility pole, ejecting all five of the vehicle’s occupants. A third victim, who police did not name, was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in serious condition with internal injuries, police said.
Two additional victims, also not named, were hospitalized with broken bones, authorities said. Police said the accident remains under investigation.
