Event of­fers tips on tax in­cen­tives for farm­ers

KINGSTON >> Farm­ers look­ing to learn more about the New York state Ag As­sess­ment Pro­gram and other tax in­cen­tives are in­vited to Cor­nell Co­op­er­a­tive Ex­ten­sion of Ul­ster County, 232 Plaza Road, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 20.

The first step to­ward as­sess­ment of prop­erty is con­tact­ing the tax as­ses­sor, a press re­lease said. At this class, Michael Dun­ham, tax as­ses­sor for the towns of Mar­ble­town, Rochester and Rosendale, will pro­vide in­for­ma­tion on the ag land tax as­sess­ment pro­gram.

Par­tic­i­pants will find out how to par­tic­i­pate in the pro­gram, what in­for­ma­tion as­ses­sors will need, how a re­duc­tion in taxes is de­ter­mined and what types of ac­tiv­i­ties qual­ify for the ag land tax as­sess­ment. This pro­gram is free, but space is lim­ited. RSVP by Oct. 14 so or­ga­niz­ers can plan for the num­ber of at­ten­dees.
