FDR High School will be rededicated Oct. 14
STAATSBURG » Generations will gather to celebrate 50 years of education and to rededicate the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 .
The festivities will kick off the 50th class reunion weekend for the first graduates of the school at 156 South Cross Road. The event is open to the public.
The class will be relaying the cornerstone after a new time capsule is secured.
The original high school building, built on Haviland Road, was dedicated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940. It now serves as Haviland Middle School.
Guests and speakers will include U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, and David Roosevelt, grandson of Franklin Delano and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Roosevelt was instrumental in the design and building of the original high school. He said at the time, “We have faith in education as the foundation of democratic government.”
