El­lenville notches win over Marl­boro

After a back and forth first half, El­lenville High held Marl­boro score­less in the sec­ond to pull out a 5-2 win in a non-league boys soc­cer match Tues­day.

Rylie Lake struck first on a Wes Cruz as­sist in the 12th minute to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. Seven min­utes later, Do­minick Pendino scored the equal­izer for the Iron Dukes. Wes Cruz then kicked one between the posts in the 30th minute on an as­sist from Lake to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 edge be­fore Wal­ter Espinoza tied the game again in the 37th minute to make it 2-2.

Just six min­utes later matt Lamen­dola con­nected off of Lake to put El­lenville on top, 3-2. Goals by Kyle Guiney, on a Cruz as­sist, and by Cruz in the 77th minute sealed the Blue Devils’ vic­tory.

“This was a great bounce back per­for­mance after our epic melt­down against Cole­man the other night,” El­lenville coach Maxwell Mead said. “We were much calmer and com­posed, es­pe­cially when go­ing for­ward and pos­sess­ing the ball.

The (7-6) Blue Devils owned a 16-6 edge in shots on goal.

Daniel Ma­hany had two saves for El­lenvile, while Jawad Haidaoui had six for (1-10-3) Marl­boro.

The Blue Devils seek their 10th con­sec­u­tive sec­tional berth at home against High­land on Thurs­day. Wal­lkill 2, Pough­keep­sie 0

At Wal­lkill, John Lo­ci­cero had one goal and as­sisted on Daniel Crisano’s score to help lead the (104) Pan­thers. Andy Acevedo as­sisted on Lo­ci­cero’s tally.

Justin Du­nikowski had seven saves for Wal­lkill, while Cris­to­bal San­ti­ago made 12 for (6-6) Pough­keep­sie.

Mount Academy 3, New Paltz 0

At Eso­pus, Thomas Huleatt had two goals and an as­sist, Ben­son Arnold also scored and Tim Ca­vanna had an as­sist to lead (6-5) Mount Academy.

Dean Blough made seven saves for the Ea­gles. Dan Drewnowski had three saves for (5-62) New Paltz.
