Ellenville notches win over Marlboro
After a back and forth first half, Ellenville High held Marlboro scoreless in the second to pull out a 5-2 win in a non-league boys soccer match Tuesday.
Rylie Lake struck first on a Wes Cruz assist in the 12th minute to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Dominick Pendino scored the equalizer for the Iron Dukes. Wes Cruz then kicked one between the posts in the 30th minute on an assist from Lake to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 edge before Walter Espinoza tied the game again in the 37th minute to make it 2-2.
Just six minutes later matt Lamendola connected off of Lake to put Ellenville on top, 3-2. Goals by Kyle Guiney, on a Cruz assist, and by Cruz in the 77th minute sealed the Blue Devils’ victory.
“This was a great bounce back performance after our epic meltdown against Coleman the other night,” Ellenville coach Maxwell Mead said. “We were much calmer and composed, especially when going forward and possessing the ball.
The (7-6) Blue Devils owned a 16-6 edge in shots on goal.
Daniel Mahany had two saves for Ellenvile, while Jawad Haidaoui had six for (1-10-3) Marlboro.
The Blue Devils seek their 10th consecutive sectional berth at home against Highland on Thursday. Wallkill 2, Poughkeepsie 0
At Wallkill, John Locicero had one goal and assisted on Daniel Crisano’s score to help lead the (104) Panthers. Andy Acevedo assisted on Locicero’s tally.
Justin Dunikowski had seven saves for Wallkill, while Cristobal Santiago made 12 for (6-6) Poughkeepsie.
Mount Academy 3, New Paltz 0
At Esopus, Thomas Huleatt had two goals and an assist, Benson Arnold also scored and Tim Cavanna had an assist to lead (6-5) Mount Academy.
Dean Blough made seven saves for the Eagles. Dan Drewnowski had three saves for (5-62) New Paltz.
