The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team squandered a 3-1 second half lead to fall to No. 19 Kean, 4-3, Tuesday.

The Cougars opened up scoring in the second minute, but Justine O’Reilly answered back just 30 seconds later.

Just before halftime, Seren Capsello knocked in a goal off an assist from O’Reilly to give the Hawks the lead at the intermission.

O’Reilley put in a third score in the 43rd minute to give New Paltz a 3-1 edge.

But then Kean’s offense answered with goals in the 47th and 60th minutes to knot the score at 3-3.

Just two minutes later, the undefeated Cougars struck again for the winning score handing the Hawks their second straight loss to a Top 20-ranked foe.

Megan Gangewere had 15 saves in her fifth match on the season with double digit stops, and her second straight with at least 12, for the (8-5) Hawks.
