The Trea­sury Depart­ment is­sues a re­port today on how much money Un­cle Sam took in and paid out last month.

The Au­gust re­port showed that the fed­eral gov­ern­ment’s re­ceipts and out­lays trans­lated into a deficit of $107.1 bil­lion for the month, re­flect­ing higher spend­ing and lower-than ex­pected tax rev­enues. Econ­o­mists pro­ject that the gov­ern­ment ended Septem­ber with a sur­plus of $45 bil­lion, down from $90.9 bil­lion a year ear­lier.
