Trooper in­volved in Dutchess crash that killed mo­tor­cy­clist

A state trooper re­spond­ing to a re­port of a per­son with a knife at the Mill­brook High School foot­ball game Fri­day evening was in­volved in a fa­tal crash with a mo­tor­cy­cle.

State po­lice said the of­fi­cer was driv­ing east­bound on U.S. Route 44 with emer­gency lights and sirens ac­ti­vated when he was in­volved in an ac­ci­dent with a mo­tor­cy­cle op­er­ated by a 45-year-old Brook­lyn man. The col­li­sion took place at the in­ter­sec­tion of Route 44 and Sharon Turn­pike in the town of Wash­ing­ton.

The op­er­a­tor of the mo­tor­cy­cle, whose name was with­held pend­ing no­ti­fi­ca­tion of rel­a­tives, was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

The trooper was taken to Vas­sar Broth­ers Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Poughkeepsie for eval­u­a­tion and re­leased with mi­nor in­juries.

The crash is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the state po­lice.
