Pine Bush man charged in robbery attempt
A Pine Bush man faces a felony charge of attempted robbery after police said he tried to rob the Borderline Deli at 1218 Burlingham Road Saturday morning.
State Police at Wawarsing said Thomas J. Mann, 31, of Pine Bush, entered the deli around 9:40 a.m., told the clerk he had a gun in his pocket, and demanded cash from the deli’s register.
When the clerk verbally confronted him, he fled the store in a gray Toyota Corolla, authorities said. Later that day, a trooper on patrol on U.S. Route 209 spotted the car, pulled it over, took Mann into custody and charged him, police said.
After troopers took man Mann to the state police barracks in Wawarsing, authorities said, he intentionally damaged a wall and he was subsequently charged with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.
Mann was arraigned in Wawarsing Town Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He’s scheduled to appear in Shawangunk Town Court on Monday.
