The New York Rangers agreed to terms Sun­day with free agent for­ward Justin Fon­taine on a two-way con­tract and as­signed him to Hart­ford of the Amer­i­can Hockey League.

The New York Rangers agreed to terms Sun­day with free agent for­ward Justin Fon­taine on a two-way con­tract and as­signed him to Hart­ford of the Amer­i­can Hockey League.

Fon­taine, 28, has skated in 197 NHL games over three sea­sons, all with Min­nesota. He has 27 goals and 41 as­sists for 68 points, along with a plus-22 rat­ing and 58 penalty min­utes.

The 5-10, 174-pound Fon­taine skated in 60 games with the Wild in 2015-16, get­ting five goals and 11 as­sists. He had a plus-3 rat­ing and 20 penalty min­utes.

Fon­taine pre­vi­ously played two sea­sons (2011-12 and 201213) with the Hous­ton Aeros of the AHL. Be­fore that, he spent four sea­sons on Min­nesota-Du­luth team, help­ing it win the NCAA ti­tle in 2011.
