Police ID man killed in collision with state trooper’s vehicle
TOWN OF WASHINGTON >> A Brooklyn man killed Friday when his motorcycle collided with a New York state trooper’s patrol vehicle on U.S. Route 44 was identified by state police Monday.
Warren Corbitt, 45, was killed Friday evening at the intersection of U.S. Route 44 and Sharon Turnpike in the town of Washington, police said.
Trooper Cody J. Vetter, 32, address not provided, was eastbound on Route 44 with emergency lights and sirens activated when he struck Corbitt’s motorcycle, police have said.
Corbitt was pronounced dead at the scene.
Vetter, a four-year veteran of the state police who was assigned to the Poughkeepsie barracks, was responding to a report of a person with a knife at the Millbrook High School, according to police.
The outcome of that incident, which was handled by village of Millbrook police, was not immediately available Monday.
Vetter was taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie for evaluation and released with minor injuries, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by state police at Albany.
