Po­lice ID man killed in col­li­sion with state trooper’s ve­hi­cle

TOWN OF WASH­ING­TON >> A Brook­lyn man killed Fri­day when his mo­tor­cy­cle col­lided with a New York state trooper’s pa­trol ve­hi­cle on U.S. Route 44 was iden­ti­fied by state po­lice Mon­day.

War­ren Cor­bitt, 45, was killed Fri­day evening at the in­ter­sec­tion of U.S. Route 44 and Sharon Turn­pike in the town of Wash­ing­ton, po­lice said.

Trooper Cody J. Vet­ter, 32, ad­dress not pro­vided, was east­bound on Route 44 with emer­gency lights and sirens ac­ti­vated when he struck Cor­bitt’s mo­tor­cy­cle, po­lice have said.

Cor­bitt was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

Vet­ter, a four-year veteran of the state po­lice who was as­signed to the Pough­keep­sie bar­racks, was re­spond­ing to a re­port of a per­son with a knife at the Mill­brook High School, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

The out­come of that in­ci­dent, which was han­dled by vil­lage of Mill­brook po­lice, was not im­me­di­ately avail­able Mon­day.

Vet­ter was taken to Vas­sar Broth­ers Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Pough­keep­sie for eval­u­a­tion and re­leased with mi­nor in­juries, po­lice said.

The crash re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion by state po­lice at Al­bany.
