Ann E. Fitzsim­mons, 77, of Shokan

Ann E. Fitzsim­mons, 77, passed away Mon­day, Oct. 17, 2016, at Kingston Hos­pi­tal.

Born Dec. 3, 1938 in Gram­mercy Park, she was the daugh­ter of the late An­drew and El­iz­a­beth Poul­not Hey­den and was for­merly of Flo­ral Park.

Ann was a grad­u­ate of St. Joseph’s School and Sa­cred Heart Academy in Gar­den City. She grad­u­ated from Hollins Col­lege in Virginia and re­ceived her masters de­gree from Hof­s­tra Uni­ver­sity. Af­ter col­lege, she was a sec­re­tary at IBM in Gar­den City and then taught 5th grade at Wood­hull Academy in Hol­lis, Queens, with two of her best friends. She later worked in the real es­tate in­dus­try un­til her re­tire­ment.

She was ac­tive in the Flo­ral Park Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion, and was a ded­i­cated girl scout leader. She was ac­tive with the Olive Se­nior Art Club and the Bard Life­long Learning or­ga­ni­za­tion.

She was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Robert H. Fitzsim­mons, March 17, 2007; her step­mother, Lily Boo Fitzsim­mons; and two broth­ers, An­drew and Peter Hey­den.

Sur­viv­ing are her chil­dren, Robert Fitzsim­mons of Kingston, Su­san Martin of Sal­is­bury, N.H., Kath­leen Fitzsim­mons of New Rochelle and Laura Fitzsim­mons of Corn­well; two sis­ters, El­iz­a­beth Nor­ton of Is­lip and Christina Estes of Shokan; four grand­chil­dren, Meghan Cas­tro, Ti­mothy, Abi­gail and Matthew Martin; and a great-grand­daugh­ter, Iss­abelle Cas­tro-Fitzsim­mons.

Friends will be re­ceived Fri­day 2 to 8 p.m. at Lasher Fu­neral Home, Inc., 100 Tin­ker St., Wood­stock.

The fu­neral pro­ces­sion will for 10:15 a.m. Satur­day at the fu­neral home, thence to St. John’s Church, Holly Hills drive, Wood­stock. Burial will be at a later date at Winchell Ceme­tery, Shokan.

In lieu of flow­ers, con­tri­bu­tion to St., Jude’s Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal would be ap­pre­ci­ated.
