The state Department of Environmental Conservation will hold a public meeting Oct. 27 to provide information and gather comments on the development of unit management plans for the Colgate Lake wild forest unit and the Windham Blackhead Range wilderness unit in the Greene County towns of Windham, Jewett, Cairo, Catskill and Hunter.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Mountain Top Library, 6093 Main St. Written comments regarding the use of the lands will be accepted until Dec. 12 and should be sent to Maxwell Wolckenhauer, NYSDEC Region 4 Stamford suboffice, 65561 state Highway 10, Suite 1, Stamford, N.Y. 12167, or emailed to R4.UMP@dec.ny.gov.
The Windham Blackhead Range wilderness contains some of the highest terrain in the Catskills, including 13 peaks over 3,000 feet. The Colgate Lake area is popular for fishing, kayaking and primitive camping.
