Oct. 27 pub­lic meet­ing fo­cuses on state lands

The state De­part­ment of En­vi­ron­men­tal Con­ser­va­tion will hold a pub­lic meet­ing Oct. 27 to pro­vide in­for­ma­tion and gather com­ments on the de­vel­op­ment of unit man­age­ment plans for the Col­gate Lake wild for­est unit and the Wind­ham Black­head Range wilder­ness unit in the Greene County towns of Wind­ham, Jewett, Cairo, Catskill and Hunter.

The meet­ing will be­gin at 6 p.m. at the Moun­tain Top Li­brary, 6093 Main St. Writ­ten com­ments re­gard­ing the use of the lands will be ac­cepted un­til Dec. 12 and should be sent to Maxwell Wol­ck­en­hauer, NYSDEC Re­gion 4 Stam­ford sub­of­fice, 65561 state High­way 10, Suite 1, Stam­ford, N.Y. 12167, or emailed to R4.UMP@dec.ny.gov.

The Wind­ham Black­head Range wilder­ness con­tains some of the high­est ter­rain in the Catskills, in­clud­ing 13 peaks over 3,000 feet. The Col­gate Lake area is pop­u­lar for fish­ing, kayak­ing and prim­i­tive camp­ing.
