Driver charged af­ter woman fa­tally struck, dragged by bus

Po­lice say a New York City bus driver has been ar­rested af­ter his bus fa­tally struck and dragged a woman for about half a mile.

The ac­ci­dent hap­pened Fri­day evening in the fi­nan­cial district. The Queens-bound bus stopped af­ter some­one on the street alerted tell the driver that some­one was pinned un­der a rear wheel.

Po­lice say the vic­tim was struck sev­eral blocks ear­lier near the Staten Is­land Ferry Ter­mi­nal. The driver re­mained on the scene. Po­lice later charged him with fail­ing to yield to a pedes­trian.

It wasn’t im­me­di­ately clear if the driver, 63-yearold Roger Weck­worth, had an at­tor­ney who could com­ment on the charges.

The vic­tim’s name wasn’t im­me­di­ately re­leased.
