SUNY New Paltz ral­lies for con­fer­ence vic­tory

A pair of sec­ond-half goals gave the SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team a cru­cial 3-1 vic­tory over SUNY Fre­do­nia in a State Univer­sity of New York Ath­letic Con­fer­ence match Fri­day to keep it in the thick of the play­off race. With the Blue Devils up 1-0 in the 42nd minute, Aleco Po­drias kicked in the equal­izer, his fourth goal in his last two ap­pear­ances against (106-1, 4-4-0) Fre­do­nia.

The Hawks went ahead in the 58th minute when Sam Spring headed one in off a Ben Zilka header.

Thomas Preece kicked one in off a Char­lie Versen as­sist to give the Hawks a 3-0 Edge.

The Hawks held a 14-8 ad­van­tage in shots on goal.

Af­ter an early goal, John Guzzo set­tled down and recorded three saves for (7-3-7, 3-3-2) New Paltz.
